About the project

An innovative, demonstrative facility designed for independent living by seniors. It will ensure supervision over their safety and health, enable remote communication with family and friends, and support creation of the local community.

The project will offer a unique Independent Living service, that is a combination of senior cohousing, integration and development programs, with innovative At-Home-Monitoring-Systems.

Project goals
Project goals

The objective of the project is to counteract solitude and exclusion of elderly people through:

  • providing a safe facility adapted to the needs of the seniors, allowing them to live independently,
  • safety and health monitoring systems — the use of innovative, non-invasive technologies in the facility will ensure a quick response of neighbors, family, facility coordinator to life-threatening situations such as: stroke, heart attack, fall, fainting, but also fever, colds etc.,
  • counteracting loneliness — through the KOMP technology — facilitating easy, remote communication with family and friends and a package of integration activities,
  • counteracting exclusion — by activating pro-social and professional projects — e.g.  senior cafe,
  • taking care of health — fitness classes, rehabilitation, Nordic walking etc.
Shared Spaces

  • Laundry facilities
  • Rehabilitation room
Location
Location

Villa Zakątek is located in the Piastowskie Housing District in Lublin, which has very nicely developed green areas, manly walking alleys and enchanting spots for cosy leisure of its inhabitants. 40 limestone open-air sculptures presenting the scenes from the life of the Piasts located at the territory of the district, constitute an additional element enriching it. Such sculptures were prepared as a result of the Lublin Art Meetings.

The District administration authorities have performed an in-depth revitalization of the central square of the District, together with the fountain and surrounding areas based on the design prepared by the students of the Institute of Landscape Architecture of the Catholic University in Lublin which was selected in a contest.

This square received an award of Cristal Brick in “Home 2014” competition in the category of Public Areas. The number of roads is limited in the District, thus the walking alleys are safe and comfortable.

Needs of seniors realized by the project
Needs of seniors realized by the project

Needs of seniors realized by the project:

  • the need for independent living in a facility adapted to the needs of seniors,
  • the need for safety — fear of lack of help in the emergency — fewer, fainting, fall,
  • the need for belonging to a community — to prevent loneliness and depression,
  • the need for respect, appreciation and usefulness,
  • the need to use free time in an active and productive way.
State-of-the-art technologies
State-of-the-art technologies

The Independent Living service, apart from the cohousing model engaging seniors, assumes a wide use of state-of-the-art technologies monitoring and supporting the safety of seniors (At-Home Monitoring Systems).

  • HEALTH & SAFETY SUPERVISION — an automatic monitoring system that detects a change in body temperature or a sudden fall, along with a system of notifying authorized persons about the occurrence of an emergency.
  • SMART LIVING — the use of convenient biometric locks.
  • SMART HOME — a system of intelligent light and heat control.
  • SAFE HOME — a threat monitoring system including smoke detectors, flood detectors, alarm system, video intercoms, security systems.
  • KOMP — a safe and secure communication device that can receive text messages, pictures and video calls from friends, family or other invited users to the private network. It is a large, self-standing screen with only one button, designed to be very easy to use.
